mandolining the sermon
Redefine abundance
Fear nothing.
Proclaim Christ.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
- the sermon for Sunday
Last night I attended a concert at t he local American Legion post. Some kind people from Community Church invited me to attend and I am glad I did. First the company was lovely. Second, well, the bands were unreal.
Mandy and the Bandits were the opening act. They are a local Chicago group making some might fine bluegrass/jazz happiness. Then
Carrie Hassler and Hard Rain stood up to play. Damn...just...damn. I commend them to your undivided bluegrassy attention. Listen to the mandolinist in particular. They are all outstanding, but the mandolinist...yeah. Ah well. Perhaps in another life I'll step out of the "hack" column and move into the "player" column. Some day...some other life.
In other news, the sermon continues apace. Though I have mandolins running amok in my brain, I think I may have an actual sermon. Does anyone have a useful definition of the word "sermon"? It's just a question. I'm trying to bring a Word to the people of Community Church. It's the first of several budget meetings. We need a God-centered plan. Right.
The sermoning continues apace. Mandolins dance in my head. God is good...planing the grain of the universe...
prayer from Taize:
God of peace, you love us before we love you; you never want human suffering; you suffer
with those who are undergoing trials.
