Something to chew on...

People cannot bear to have a unity that is above them and of which, with their particular tasks and graces, they are only a part. They shift unity from the whole into the part. They do not want symphony, but rather unison. In Platonic terms, this is the tyrannis; in modern terms it is totalitarianism, the inner contradiction of the one-party system and the arrogant claim to infallibility.
I am reading Hans Urs von Balthazar's Truth is Symphonic right now. This guy rocked.
