Amma Syncletica said, "In the beginning there is struggle and a lot of work for those who come near to God. But after that there is indescribable joy. It is just like building a fire: at first it is smoky and your eyes water, but later you get the desired result. Thus we ought to light the divine fire in ourselves with tears and effort."
Yes, brothers and sisters, it is time for another installment of "Wednesday Linkage!" Oh, yes! This is the time in the week where I link to all of those blog posts and internet articles that are sure to change the way you perceive the very cosmos, for that is what the internet is all about.Well, something like that. Enjoy!
Sermons:
Sacristan: The Great Sac wants you to think about Heaven and our Sunday worship.
Rev Ref: His Stripeness is interested in identifying practices. How very post-modern!
Sara Dylan Bruer: She can preach. And she rocked my little world this week. Alleluia, indeed.
From the faculty:
Micah is working at a Cafe. No, it's more than that.
Beth is crying with AKMA. Are there songs that make you cry?
Jorge may have found a monastery.
Geoff is off to get his PhD.
Amy wants to introduce the staff of her church.
Mike is thinking about politics and money.
Noz wants us to know that they are still building that wall in Iraq.
Sundries:
Here is a link to an interview with Andrew Hitchens.
I think it’s false to say that the president acts as if he believes he has God’s instructions. Compared to Jimmy Carter, he’s nowhere. He’s a Methodist, having joined his wife’s church in the end. He also claims that Jesus got him off the demon drink. He doesn’t believe it. His wife said, “If you don’t stop, I’m leaving and I’m taking the kids.” You can say that you got help from Jesus if you want, but that’s just a polite way of putting it in Texas. The Christian Century's John Petrakis has this to say about the comic book violence in 300.
Is the film historically inaccurate? Is the pope Catholic? Show me a sword-and-sandal movie that doesn't play fast and loose with the known facts and I'll show you a PBS documentary.
