Alleluia! Christ is risen!
The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Blessed are you, almighty God,
through Jesus Christ the King of glory.
Born of a woman,
he came to our rescue.
Dying for us,
he trampled death and conquered sin.
By the glory of his resurrection
he opened the way to life eternal
and by his ascension,
gave us the sure hope
that where he is we may also be.
For these and all your mercies, we praise you,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit:
Blessed be God for ever!

Heh. Finally I'm figuring it out -- your focus on the resurrection and salvation vs. my focus on the teaching to "Love One Another."
You're looking at what happens after death, and I'm looking at what we do before death.
I suppose that makes me a very Jewish semi-Christian... :-)
Posted by: Megan at May 17, 2007 12:09 PMI don't draw the distinction, actually. I do assume that there is an "after death" and what we do here is to reflect that hope.
So, salvation is incarnational...echoes in life and in death.
Posted by: Tripp at May 17, 2007 03:03 PMAny concern with "salvation" according to the Christian system (insert my standard disclaimer here about not believing we have anything to be "saved" from) automatically makes the distinction between concern about how to live this life and concern about what happens after death.
Because the Christian system dictates that one can't be "saved" until after one dies. So, "salvation" only operates in the space after death.
Posted by: Megan at May 17, 2007 03:14 PMOooh! I see a place where we have misunderstood one another... Tah dah...
One can be saved while one lives. A sign of that salvation is life after death, but salvation is a living occurance, a lived grace if you will.
Well, that's how I understand saintliness, holiness, sanctification etc...
Posted by: Tripp at May 17, 2007 03:22 PMAnd yet, there's no way to know until after one dies. Therefore, the rubber really meets the road after death.
I don't think we misunderstand each other. I think we disagree.
Posted by: Megan at May 17, 2007 03:38 PMPerhaps you are right.
Posted by: Tripp at May 17, 2007 03:48 PMThat's very funny. :)
Posted by: Megan at May 17, 2007 03:49 PMActually Megan and Tripp as far as Christian teaching goes it is both, salvation is now and we can know it now, and salvation is the eschaton, not just after our individual deaths, but the passing of this "world", this aspect we only have a foretaste in the now, and so in a sense salvation isn't fulfilled till the end. And yes we disagree, But that disagreement seems to stem from your assumption that you know what Christianity is. I am not convinced from what you usually say here on Tripp's blog that you in fact do have a good grasp of Christian faith.
Posted by: Larry at May 17, 2007 04:45 PM"One can be saved while one lives. A sign of that salvation is life after death, but salvation is a living occurance, a lived grace if you will." See, Larry. I said it! I did!
;-)
Posted by: Tripp at May 18, 2007 08:59 AMYa but you wavered, or perhaps seemed willing to accept the reduction offered. by saying "Perhaps your right!" ;-] But now that you have repeated yourself, I'm satisfied. ;-)
I was making a funny about our disagreement...Perhaps we disagree, perhaps we do not. It is clear that Megan and I disagree. Golly, but the communication here is sketchy.
Posted by: Tripp at May 18, 2007 09:43 AMLarry, honey, don't lose any sleep over whether or not I "have a good grasp of Christian faith."
It's not your problem.
