You know Dr. Cash didn't write it, though, don't you? That's a traditional spiritual, much older than himself.

I do know that. He spent the last years of his life reclaiming those old songs. I have heard that he recorded several CDs worth of that stuff.

The Blind Boys of Alabama have a great recording of it as well. Incredible stuff!

I heard the song attached to some documentary involving the Roman priest abuse scandal...it had a much different meaning within the confines of the documentary.
