1) Do you observe Advent in your church?
Yes, both at Reconciler and at Community. Reconciler is a little more traditional, but the practices are pretty close.
2) How about at home?
Not at all really. We hold off until the feast of St. Nicholas to put up the tree, but both of us grew up without Advent, so it's still hard to remember to do anything at home. Someday this may change. We still talk about celebrating the 12 days of Christmas...decorating the tree on Christmas Eve...and playing hard until Epiphany.
3) Do you have a favorite Advent text or hymn?
Oh. Um. Yes...
If, as Herod, we fill our lives with things,
and again with things,
If we consider ourselves so unimportant
that we must fill every moment of our lives with action,
When will we have time to make the long slow
journey across the desert as did the Magi?
Or sit and watch the stars as did the shepherds?
Or brood over the coming of the child as did Mary?
For each one of us there is a desert to travel,
a star to discover
and a being within ourselves to bring to life.
-Unknown
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence is my favorite hymn.
4) Why is one of the candles in the Advent wreath pink? (You may tell the truth, but I'll like your answer better if it's funny.)
Gaudete! I have nothing funny to say about it. How sad!
5) What's the funniest/kitschiest Advent calendar you've ever seen?
Legos!!!

Love the Legos! We had a Playmobil Advent calendar one year, and really it should have been possible to use it over and over, but we moved and things were confusing, and I'm not sure I ever saw the whole thing again. We still have the Santa, and he makes an appearance somewhere each year.
