If one thing is clear as soon as the Church becomes serious about its missionary and ministerial calling for the world, it is that two difficult roads in particular have to betrodden: first, the road towards overcoming the scantiness of its knowledge of the world of today, and its ignoring of what really goes on in the world under its surface; secondly, the road towards reforming its spirit, atmosphere, and inherited structure, in so far as they give no room for new vitality...
What can and must be said and resaid, with all gratitude for what in many places is already happening, is that a fearless scrutiny and revision of structure is one of the most urgent aspects of a renewal of the Church.

So, yesterday I posted on sabbath. Tell me again about the Sabbath, George. Oy. Veh. So easier said than done, it is.
That's all I got.
the listening bar
Last Night - The Strokes
Name - Googoo Dolls
Into the Mystic - Van Morrison
Explain this "tea" you speak of...
Posted by: Susie at November 14, 2006 08:34 AMSabbaths are hard. They are a discipline. They must be planned for, and stuck with. Easier said than done, indeed.
I know the feeling of dread that can accompany going to work on days like this. I think you love your work and are called to it and I love and am called to mine, but that makes it no less of a challenge to roll the old bones out of bed.
Work and Sabbath. Sabbath and Work. Sabbath *is* work. Work . . . can be sabbath?
Let me know what I can do, Tripp.
Posted by: Jorge Sanchez at November 14, 2006 09:01 AMAnd yet, the whole point of Sabbaths is that they are supposed to be moments of ease.
To make Sabbaths "hard" is just to fall right back into the modern trap of difficulty/busyness as virtue.
Posted by: Megan at November 14, 2006 11:34 AMlove that Van Morrison song! i never tire of it. for a long time it was my myspace profile song, but the real Van Morrison showed up on myspace to promo his new record and the song got deleted.
Posted by: Aimee at November 14, 2006 07:00 PMTea... tea... hmm. It's, um, hmm. Leaf water, basically.
Oh - it's what you drink at Chinese restaurants!
Also it's what we'll drink in class tonight, to accompany my fresh-baked scones.
Because tea is marvelous.
Now it occurs to me that the last time we were at Lulu's, we had coffee... but they're weird, because they're an Asian restaurant with better coffee than tea.
Mmm... tea.
