sunday linkage and a quotation

Saddam Hussein sentenced to death by hanging

The Iraqi High Tribunal on Sunday sentenced a combative Saddam Hussein and two other defendants to death by hanging for a brutal crackdown in 1982 in the Shiite town of Dujail.
Amish plan new school near site of slayings
Shocking and humbling Roberts' family, members of the Amish community showed up to the killer's funeral and reached out to comfort his wife and children.
Church forces out Haggard for 'sexually immoral conduct'
"We, the Overseer Board of New Life Church, have concluded our deliberations concerning the moral failings of Pastor Ted Haggard," a statement from the church said.

"Our investigation and Pastor Haggard's public statements have proven without a doubt that he has committed sexually immoral conduct."

And here is the quotation that showed up in my in-box this morning...
The self-sins... dwell too deep within us and are too much
a part of our natures to come to our attention till the light
of God is focused upon them. The grosser manifestations of
these sins--egotism, exhibitionism, self-promotion--are
strangely tolerated in Christian leaders, even in circles of
impeccable orthodoxy. They are so much in evidence as
actually, for many people, to become identified with the
gospel. I trust it is not a cynical observation to say that
they appear these days to be a requisite for popularity in
some sections of the Church visible. Promoting self under the
guise of promoting Christ is currently so common as to excite
little notice.
... A. W. Tozer (1897-1963), Pursuit of God [1948]
I am preaching on Revelation..."Behold, I make all things new!" It is paired with "Jesus wept." As I read my way through the CNN website, I see the Alpha and the Omega, the end times revealing itself in the midst of the world...a world in desperate need of being made new. Pray for Saddam Hussein, for Ted Haggard and his family, and for the roberts family. May God bring something new...and wipe away all tears.
