So, we had a departmental meeting yesterday. At the meeting the VP read an email that was sent to the CEO of the hospital. In the email, the trauma team was lauded for its care in the midst of one of the worst kinds of crises. The chaplain was held up individually for his care and wisdom (gasp!). It felt incredible to have that email read aloud. It was about the final case I managed on my trauma rotation. The department applauded. I tried not to get too emotional. It felt so good to know that I not only learned something in those four months, but I learned them well enought to apply them. That it was recognised as a skill is icing on the cake. It is not why I do this work, but the kudos are a nice extra.
Let's hope I do as well in my pediatric unit.

Thanks, gang.
Posted by: Tripp at May 3, 2005 11:05 AMTripp, you will be specTACular in Pediatrics. And I'm very glad to hear your work was appreciated and praised in Trauma. Thank you for blogging about your experiences there! And of course I'm praying as you make your transition to the young ones' department. God bless your work there.
Posted by: Scott at May 3, 2005 08:34 PMYes, congrats. Well deserved.
I have been passing on your experiences to my friend, Charles. His partner, Bob, is in med school. You 'n Bob seem to be somewhat in synchronicity.
Bob is starting with the babies now. However,
for him that means late night calls into the hospital to birth babies.
