back from the blue

The Blue Ridge that is.

It was a great trip and a glorious wedding. The First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg, VA and the Boonsboro Country Club serve as great reminders that blue bloods exist in the Blue Ridge and they love to party down. Wow.

Trish and I made the journey back in one swail foop yesterday, arriving in Chicago about midnight. It is a long drive and we tarried in Huddleston a little too long. The good news is that we have the proofs from our wedding now. This is a great thing. They are so good! Wow. Lots of memories shared in the car on the way home. Come visit and you can take a peek. I'll be posting some as we go at Flickr. That will come later in the week.

In other news, Cliff and I got into a bit of a spat on Friday at his blog. I was inarticulate to say the least and still suffer from the same bug. But I keep on trying. Suffice it to say that I think limiting a pro-life stance to the issues surrounding reproductive technologies is short-sighted and incomplete. Cliff appears less sweeping in his application of a pro-life stance than I am. AKMA chimes in with some thoughts on pacifism at his site. It is a timely addition to the conversation as he is garnering support from both his wife, Margaret, and Augustine to support pacifism. Huh. Gotta read that when it comes to publication.

Okay, I have a presentation to prepare for today. I am leading a conversation with the group on Christianity and the arts. Basically I am suggesting that artistic endeavor/craft as L'Engle presents it (servanthood, obedience, loss of self, discipline, talent, skill, intent etc) is a very useful paradigm for pastoral care ministries. I'll let you know how that goes. I have an icon of the Theotokos, some music by U2, some poems by George Herbert and some Taize stuff to worship with that shall all serve as loci for conversaton. I'll leave you with a teaser from AKMA's post. He was not, as far as I know, responding to my conversation with Cliff. But is was cool to find it on his blog this morning.

Pacifism is more than not serving in the army: its living as an emissary of peace in exile in a land of contentiousness. When you begin with treating your spouse and children, your neighbors and students in a way governed by the blessing of peace, of course war is unthinkable but theres so much more to be done before the question of war even comes up. - AKMA

I've always admitted that pacificism is a valid Christian conclusion--but then, so is just war.

Ah, the beloved both/and.

I do not see how you can extrapolate both, but then again I am Baptist and we are slow.

Just give me that Old Time Religion.

Which Old Time Religion do you mean, my dear? Orthodoxy? Roman Catholicism? Druidism? Goddess worship?

;)

Ooo...Goddess Worship. Why not?

Heh.

It would, of course, be pre-Nicene Christianity. As a Goode Baptist, I am aware that anything else is nothing but a reflection of humanity's wishes superceding the Word of God. *wink*
