alternative election coverage

First, there is the Noz. He's got a spin on spin.

The Wondering Wanderer is trying to beat Cliff to the punch...or is that punchiness?

Cliff imagines all rock stars wearing dark suits and power ties...or something like that. I am very confused. But I like the post. He's wrong, but like the post.

Karl thinks that both parties benefit by losing. Hold on...yeah...um...that's what it says. You know, these Orthodox people are more and more confusing to me every day.

Sarah is troubled...deeply troubled. I say she moves to Canada in 2005. What is the going line on that Bet? Noz? You have any ideas?

And in a legitimate turn of the political wheel: Luke Shaefer and the rest of CYSI Online is at it for real. They posted a couple of interviews worth reading. Eli Pariser and William Upski Wimsatt are both interviewed.

My two cents: Kerry is more liberal than he lets on. Bush is more conservative than he lets on. Welcome to "How to Get Elected Using Polling Information 101." Wow. What radical political theory we have going on here.

If you are liberal, Kerry is a good candidate.
If you are neo-con, Bush is a good candidate.
If you are anyone else, you are voting against someone.

The Wanderer suggested that a new political party called "Progressive Democrats" may be in order. I think I like the idea.

I think that the Neo-Cons should do the same. That way the GOP can just nominate Arnold now and get it over with. No infighting. Four parties and not two. Soon enough we can be just like Italy but without the really old plumbing.

So, I just know that some jerk is going to write it and say this. In the public interest, I will be that jerk. Arnold cannot be president. No matter how much people love him, he is not a "natural born citizen."

But I'm even madder for the reason I feel stupid writing this. Why am I the jerk for knowing the constitution and thinking that other people might care what it says?

Can you all tell I'm having a bad election season?

I know that he cannot be president, but since the presidency is part popularity contest, Arnold is always on the forefront of my mind for laize faire Republicanism.

I don't mean to suggest that you don't know, Tripp, that Arnold can't be President. Instead, I'm trying to comment on the fact that people who take politics seriously in this country are marginalized and dismissed. "Wonky" is one word I heard in connection with a criticism of John Kerry.

It sure seems to be that we have issues that deserve, nay, require, a great national debate. And what do we have instead... x-rays of Sen. Kerry's leg.

Micah: Yeah. I hear you. To be honest, I think it is this whole marketing of the political platform. It is akin to how newspapers can fall in to that stereotypical eighth grade reading level rut. We want simple. But this stuff is not simple. I am not certain that anyone really believes that the real work of government is marketable. Campaigns are huge marketing events. So, an x-ray about Kerry's leg is both help and hindrance to marketing depending upon the spin doctors.

But you know all this...and probably wish you did not.

I am not saying Kerry won. I just think that rock stars look silly in suits and power ties. In the next debate, W, if he's wants to be a rock star, needs to wear yellow spandex or something.

I think slate is wrong, too. Just cuz he's liberal does not mean I agree with him, Cliff.

Hmmm...now that i have actually read the article, let me be more clear. Kerry blew some great opportunities. This was disappointing to say the least. As I have said before, his rhetoric is tired...or I am tired of his rhetoric. Oy.

But I find Bush's record and demeanor antithetical to how I envision the POTUS. I find him off-putting, rude, ill-spoken and generally buffoonish. If it were not for Rice, Cheney and Powell, the office would have no credibility left. I do not have to agree with someone to allow them credibility. I disagree with Bush's politics and he seemed barely contained in his frustration and anger during the portions of the debate I was able to watch.

Slate is right in that Kerry blew key opportunities. Bush still came of worse than Kerry in my book. Can we say that Kerry came in second and Bush in third while John and others who asked questions came in first? Maybe that is the best idea yet.
